I am totally agree with you, keyword is one of the important element of the website. It is necessary to select the keyword which have less competition and more search volume. For this purpose, I also like to go for Google Adwords keyword tool. Google Adwords Tool is the best for the selection of right and accurate keyword. It provides not only the volume of global and local search but also the level the competition at particular location or place. Mostly people like to use Google Adwords Tool. There are also other tool such as Google Insights, Google Trends, Word Tracker and lots more.

In my 5 years of marketing experience, I have never seen a tool as good as "keyword country".
It helps me in
-Checking the profitability of my keywords
-Rip my competitor keywords
-Choosing the most targeted keywords
-Getting alerts when my competitor changes strategy
-Finding LSI, misspelled keywords and much more...
Although its paid, you can go for a trial version

As per my experience, We should approach for each and every keyword which is direct related to our business. This is the prime point for keyword research. You can also target keyword with your local area. It gives us higher weightage.

The best keywords are 2- to 4-word phrases that accurately describe what you offer using everyday language that searchers are likely to type in, and which aren't so competitive that you have no chance of getting on the front page. If your keywords are too general then they'll likely be too competitive, and even if you rank well on them your traffic might not convert well, since searchers are usually looking for something specific. But if your keywords are too specific then few people will search for your terms and you'll get few potential visitors.

When it comes to choosing a keyword, the first and foremost principle to take into account is to get the one with most searches. That way, we can get enough and more traffic onto our website. I personally use Google Adwords Tool for the purpose of searching quality keywords.

I am also using Google adwords, but its shows incorrect results. Some keywords have more than 100000 searches but actually they only have 1000 per month.

100000 must be broad search volume. their is vast difference in broad, phrase and exact keywords. I usually select exact as broad will totally misguide you. And also all this tool are keyword suggestion tool they cant be perfect

Word tracker is a reliable tool. As for selecting keywords with more searches, these are important since they are the terms that prospective customers would most likely use. It is also critical that there is less competition so that these can easily lead people to your site.
