Backup

Is there a way to back up the list of items?

I love Launcher 1.8.5 Pro.  I like that it provides a Text-style list with very small icons that pops up from the tray.

After I used the Launcher for a week or so, while adding another item, suddenly all of my Items disappeared.  I attribute that, hopefully, to my own error in clicking the wrong button.

I looked around to find where the list file might be kept, but could not identify it.

Hi,

You can get Launcher 1.8.6 [Pro] beta here:
http://www.microsystools.com/products/launcher/all-versions.php

The save shortcuts routine has been rewritten, so it should be impossible to lose shortcuts even if something bad happens during save. (e.g. computer reboot while saving shortcuts data or situations like that!)

Regarding manual backup, you should first find out where Launcher stores data:
http://www.microsystools.com/products/launcher/help/locate-launcher-installation/
(i.e. find the "About" dialog in Launcher)

If you found the "data" directory in Launcher, it's also worth checking the "temp\" folder.. There may already be a backup of your shortcuts located in "item_bak\" folder :)

If your problem did not occur during saving shortcuts, feel free to ignore all of the above :)
In that case you probably clicked the "sweep" button that removes all invalid shortcuts (e.g. if file path does not exist etc.)
However, I don't understand how that can remove all shortcuts items unless you are using Launcher in some kind of portable mode where the USB path has changed. If that is the case, remember you can use relative paths for portable mode:
http://www.microsystools.com/products/launcher/help/program-launcher-portable-usb/

If problem persist, please let me know. (But be sure to try Launcher version 1.8.6 [Pro] beta)

Thank you for the information.  I downloaded the new beta version and will see how it goes.

I have another program that I have used for a long time, but with both running I find that I go to Launcher Pro more often because it is faster to open Launcher Pro in the tray then scroll up and click.

Thanks again for the good response.

Hi & Sorry to open a old topic again. I would like to Backup periodically my launcher settings & short-cuts. If found the "About"-Dialog, open the application data directory. This folder contains again folders:
config, logs, projects, reuse, shortcuts, temp.
Do I need all directories? Or not?

Best regards from Vienna,
Alexander

"config" contains program settings
"shortcuts" contains shortcut data

(You can ignore the rest.)

Info: I believe there will be a new backup feature in later Launcher versions that automatically stores backups of the shortcuts (folder)

Just a quick note. The save problem should have solved. Also there is now a "backup" option one can enable just before saving shortcuts. (Thus you can make an easy backup of shortcuts when you want to.)

A further improvement in the save code has now beenn added to version 2.1 - testers report the issue as fully resolved, so backing up shorttcuts should not be necessary any longer (although still nice feature to have, and so it will be kept of course)
