How do I know when I'm using the right number of keywords on a page?

Unfortunately, there is no "right" number when it comes to keywords on a page. TF IDF is a good option. Essentially you look at the words that competitors use and their density and take the position that if Google has ranked them, they must be in the right ballpark for keyword density.
