A Meta description is an HTML element in the Meta tags that helps to specifically describe your webpage. Yes, they are important, as they provide search engine users a brief summary of what they'll find if they click through to your website. An imperative Meta description has the authority to improve the click-through rate of your organic search results which means more of the audiences who view your page in the search results will actually click through and land on your website which indirectly results in more traffic for you, even if your ranking stays the same.

The meta description is a snippet of up to 320 characters, a tag in HTML, that summarizes a page's content. Search engines show the meta description in search results mostly when the searched for phrase is contained in the description. Optimizing the meta description is a very important aspect of on-page SEO.
