Can anyone tell me, What is a Meta Tag?

Meta tags are snippets of text that describe a page's content; the meta tags don't appear on the page itself, but only in the page's code.

A meta tag is a tag (that is, a coding statement) in the Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) that describes some aspect of the contents of a Web page. There are many meta tags and html-tags and obviously they don't all influence the search result. For example the html cookie tag doesn't have any influence on your ranking with the search engines but the title of your page, the keywords and the description meta tag are very important.

A special HTML tag that provides information about a Web page. Unlike normal HTML tags, meta tags do not affect how the page is displayed.

Title you give your webpage within the meta tags is called Meta Tittle
