Title: Encoding error with sitemap
Post by: konpatsogiannis on April 04, 2014, 06:25:13 PM
Hi,

Congratulations for this software. There is high posibility that I will purchase it. (I use trial version)

I am trying to create an image sitemap for my website, inthessaloniki.com.

First clue
The simple sitemap came with 319 links (http://inthessaloniki.com/sitemap.xml) which is right.

Almost every link has images but when I try the image-sitemap in webmaster tools says that there are 138 links. Less than the half.

Second clue
When I am trying to check it online I receive :
"error on line 144 at column 20: Encoding error"

Third clue
The half of the pages are in greek, and the images have greek title or descriptions and I want to remain like this.

Answer
What coding should I use? How can I solve this problem

Thank you in advance

Hi,

It may be worth checking:
http://www.microsystools.com/products/sitemap-generator/help/image-xml-sitemaps/ (http://www.microsystools.com/products/sitemap-generator/help/image-xml-sitemaps/)

That said, you should never get errors like you do. In my initial test, it seems Greek titles are encoded correctly, but I try run a full test using version 5.0.7 (What version did you use? I can see you have named your image sitemap differently than what A1SG defaults to)

You may want to drop me an email at info microsystools.com, so I can email the image sitemap file generated, so you can try it :)

Hi,

Are you sure it is not later in the process the mistake occurs then? (Maybe during upload? Or the server enforcing and encoding or something?) What version were you using? Plus on what OS (e.g. WinXP)

Anyhow, I will upload my project + sitemap file to you. I just uploaded to here:
http://www.microsystools.com/support/sitemap-image.xml (http://www.microsystools.com/support/sitemap-image.xml)
and I do not get any error when viewing it in the browser and encoding seems to work as well.
(This was by using the default preset configuration for image sitemaps where images are placed outside root)

Thank you once again for your time.

As I saw this is a map using the hosting images in other path option right?

The thing with this option is that it takes files from cache folders or k2's temporary folders with non seo name.

Check this link

http://inthessaloniki.com/sitemap_images.xml

were I crawl inthessaloniki.com without language extension, with the right images.

I did the following

From the full map (inthessaloniki.com) in the analyze tab I erased the en tree and I created a sitemap
http://www.inthessaloniki.com/sitemap_gr_images.xml

error on line 115 at column 20: Encoding error

From the full map (inthessaloniki.com) in the analyze tab I erased the el tree and I created a sitemap
http://www.inthessaloniki.com/sitemap_en_images.xml

error on line 48 at column 20: Encoding error

 :o :o :-[ :-[ :'(

That is easy to solve by using exclude filters in "output filters". (See other thread you created.) I will email a project file that does not have that issue.

I did the following

Was this by using the project file I sent you?

What version of A1 Sitemap Generator are you using?
Are you by any chance running on Windows98 or WindowsME?
