Post by: hubert on May 03, 2011, 03:26:02 AM

I think it's only a matter of time before all profile links are null and voided. XRumer / SENuke blasts are so widespread that search engines have to deal with it. But that said, from I what hear, the current state is that they still help in getting your outer tiers of pages/sites indexed. With all that said, if you run a business, I think XRumer/SENuke blasts are to be avoided even if they give the most immediate bang for the buck. (Unfortunately, many indexing services use these things even if they don't tell you, so it can be hard to completely avoid if you ever outsource SEO, mini-sites, articles etc.)

You can also try just create a limited (10, 20, 50 or similar) amount of forums (if you can find .edu forums covering topics you can contribute to then...) where you post regularly in. That would be my recommendation. I can say that relevant forums actually do bring in nice amount of leads/clicks if you contribute content.

So folks say the work for them, but I never see forums as a place where to get some links displayed. My advise to you, if you nee one is to use the forums in accordance with their Rules and never to post anything only to see your signature there. Having build a good posting history in any web forum will make its users to trust you. This is much more important than a few links you might have here and there.

That is good thinking but in forums you have limited authority even after hundreds of posts. Still i think contributing in forum is more useful than just linking profiles to a site.

Are you talking about massive backlinks from unused profiles? I don't think they really help that much. But then again, the majority thinks that a backlink is a backlink and the more you have the better. This is actually true, at least to some extent.
Building a profile on forums for example, by contributing and interacting with other members, you gain reputation which is much more beneficial. You might actually gain some (targeted) traffic besides (quality) one way links. And that's definitely not the case with bulk profiles...

Building a good profile link helps you to make use of the popularity of these sites to get backlinks to your targeted pages. In order that you get good results you have to ensure that the profile page is open to search engines and users who are not registered, your home page must have excellent PR, and the site must permit anchor text. It is not an easy task; in fact it takes time, care and effort to create good profile links, but if carried out and created well it can be extremely beneficial, sometimes more so than even back links.

A link profile is essentially one huge balancing act where everything has its place.Profile links can be provided to any number of websites but a word of caution here is that the entrepreneur should try on his behalf to link up with websites which boast of a high quality and a high rank
