Hi,
Backlinks are those one way incoming links to a website which starts from a site and ends/land to the page of your website. These are so important because Search Engines consider such links as referring links i.e. the website referring your site through that link.
Backlinks helps search engines to determine the popularity and importance of a website or web-page among the others.
