Next up in the series of most useful Google Analytics reports is the Map Overlay report. The Map Overlay report is found under the Visitors tab. Simply put, this report allows you to see (visually on a map) where your visitors are located and how visitors from different locations behave.

Google Analytics Map Overlay Report provides users with an automatically generated geographic segmentation of their website visitors. The initial view of the report allows users to see global visitor locations. However, it is a simple process to view geo-segmentation by country/territory and also by city.

The compiling onto a single map all the disqualified areas on the individual maps and then choosing among whatever qualified locations remain. The Map Overlay and Statistical System, is a GIS software technology. Development of MOSS began in late 1977 and was first deployed for use in 1979. MOSS represents a very early public domain, open source GIS development - predating the better known GRASS by 5 years.

A "Tracking Overlay map"is a map that displays multiple geographic features as layers on a base map. Create layers on the tracing paper so that spatial associations or connections between features can be easily identified.

An overlay is a procedure that estimates the attributes of one or more features by superimposing them over other features, and figuring out the extent to which they overlap. You use overlays to estimate the attributes of features in a map layer based on data in another map layer.
