Title: Optimize PageRank sculpting and link juice flow
Post by: Webhelpforums on April 17, 2010, 06:03:57 PM
PageRank is the algorihm Google deviced for ranking websites based on link juice and weight flow across websites on the entire internet. Other search engines utilize similar techniques.

However, please note, raw link juice calculations is only one of many algorithms used when search engines decide the final rank of websites in search result pages.

PageRank sculpting is the process of eliminating internal links to low-quality pages. This includes pages on both your website and external ones.

This can either be through "nofollow" such links or simply removing them. For instance many blogs contain countless links to "social bookmark" sites offering no real value to search engines.

Thanks for describing the difference. I worked for an seo firm (http://www.webimax.com) for a while. It is tough to differentiate what works & what doesn't. Especially since Google seems to change their expectations.

Each page passes link juice (authority) and each linked page gets the authority. If your PR5 blog main page links to 10 different sites, each of these 10 links, internal and external, is going to get an equal amount of PR. So the higher the PR of the page that is linking and the fewer links the page links to, the more authority the linked page will receive from the link.
