Title: On-page optimization tips
Post by: justinalex on November 09, 2010, 04:34:11 AM
* Make sure to have a different title/meta tags on each one of your pages.
* The titles, meta keywords and meta descriptions MUST reflect the content of the page they are on.
* Try to optimize your keywords in a "pyramid" where the pages closer to the index page are optimized for the most important keywords, while deep pages should be optimized for very specific keywords.
* Try to reduce the size of your images as much as possible.
* Create a sitemap.
* Create a robots.txt to avoid the search engines from crawling pages you don't want to be indexed.
* Use H1 tags for titles, and H2 tags for subtitles.
* Bulleted lists <ul> <li>...</li><li>...</li>...........</ul> are good for SEO.
* Try to use static links, without variables or Session IDs on them. If your website has been developed in a dynamic language (php, asp, etc), and you are experiencing indexation problems, you will probably need to hire an expert to fix your URLs and make them look "static" for search engines.
* DO NOT spam your text with keywords. Your text has to be natural, and include related terms to your main keyword on it. You should not try to put your keyword many times on your text. This will not help you anymore.

The whole process has to start with a keyword research.
You need to choose the main keywords that have to be relevant to your business, bring in highly targeted traffic and a big volume of traffic in comparison to other terms.
You have to make sure that the keywords can fit naturally into the content and they are the best words to describe want you want to say.
You also have to build relevant phrases from these keywords and their synonyms, and also ensure a natural flow in your content to maintain a proper keyword balance thus make it easy for visitors to read and understand.

You covered maximum things related to Onpage. I would like to ad one more thing. Don't target more then 2-3 key-phrases on a single page and if you want to target more keywords then it would be good if you create new landing pages for them. Also try to improve your page down speed.

Whether you have content to sell your products or your product is the content it's important to have enough relevant content all your pages. Make sure the entire page reads smoothly and is understandable because humans buy products not search engine bots. It's good to link out to other sites as long as they are relevant. Be careful of having too many outbound links on any one page of a site. Many people have the misconception that you build a website and then kick back and watch the money roll in. Building a website is a job that is truly never done.

It is to optimize a website on the page of factors that are directly related to the content and structure of the site and controlled by you or coding on your part. It deals with the code changes and design to help search engines read the page and index them effectively with the ultimate goal of having a site rank better in search engines and improve visitor satisfaction.
