You can't really compare the two. Both the techniques must work together to help you get improved visibility and ranking. Search engines are as much concerned over unique content and keyword optimization as much they are about social media reputation and backlinks.

Both are these similarly effective of search engine optimization to achieve search engine ranking, generates traffic, increase visibility and brand exposure but you have to need to follow quality activities according to search engine guidelines such as quality content, internal linking and excellent keyword research.

Both are dependent on each other, link building alone would not work unless the contents of the site is good enough and relevant.

It's depend on the keywords density. If website keywords are having less competition then site keywords can be ranked with using only on Page Seo. But if a competition is in large scale then we have to do both on page and off page seo. On page is a one time work but off page is regular basis work.

Hello...
First of all we should focus on On Page factors like
meta tags,sitemaps,robots.txt,Google analytic code,Keyword present in title,descriptions,h1 and h2 tags,image optimization etc.
After that we should focus on off page optimization such that forum posting,Blog and article submission, social bookmarking,Blog commenting, local classifieds etc.
Both things are equally important ,i will give 9 points to on page factor and 8 points to off page factor out of 10.
Thnx,...:)

According to me both are very important in SEO. if your website on-page is proper and search engine friendly then it is very easy for us to do off-page optimization to rank well on search engines.

On-Page SEO is the process of ensuring that the search engines understand what your page is about. This is done by structuring the page around a Keyword so that when that Keyword is typed into the search box your page is seen by the search engines as highly relevant.

Off-Page SEO is the process of convincing the search engines that other people see your site as useful/relevant. The factors the search engines look at include the number of links to your site, the anchor text used on these links and the authority of the sites giving these links.

OnPage and OffPage both are equally important. you must follow algorithms of Google while doing OnPage SEO. and then while you are doing OffPage SEO you regularly updated with yourself of Google's Updates.

On page is more important since it directly deals with the website. It covers the task of the doings and non doings on the webpage.
off-page SEO, helps to improve site relations with the outside world. It helps in improving traffic on site from external sources

On page and Off page, both are most necessary parts of SEO. First, focus on your on-site activities like addition of meta tags, keywords, description, xml site map, robots txt file, Google analytic code, etc in website database and then focus on your off-page like: link building activities to submit your website at other high PR sites. It means, you should have to focus on both On page and Off page activities.

I think On Page SEO is most effective compared to off page SEO. but both are must to any business improvement.

It's not possible to compare both of on-page and off-page as both are two side of the same coin. Without doing on-page optimization, off-page activities could not help you to get good traffic and ranking. In the same way without doing off-page optimization, on-page activities could not help much to get good ranking.
