search engine optimization and search engine marketing are both marketing techniques. SEO is the process of improving a web site's rankings in search results of search engines. Whereas SEM involves driving website traffic via paid advertising, such as PPC ads. SEO helps improve organic search results while SEM focuses more on advertising.

SEO turns out to be an extremely gainful tool by working well in association with few different SEM facets like traffic analytics. SEM is comparatively bigger to SEO in purpose and comprises almost every tactic and strategy used to market online.SEM blends SEO, pay-per-click advertising, and social media strategies to give your company a higher level of visibility within the search engines' listings. But, visibility without sales is useless. And therein lies the true value of SEM.

I have had many ask me what the difference between Search Engine Marketing (SEM) and Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is, so I thought I might throw a couple of definitions out there.

I am going to start with SEO, as it is a part of SEM. SEO is the act of optimising the HTML and other content of your website for relevant, targeted key phrases in order to attain higher natural listings than competing websites. SEO provides a cheaper long term solution for increased qualified traffic and generates customer inquiries that ultimately convert to sales.

Now SEM is broader than SEO. It includes SEO and other areas to improve a sites visibility in search engine results pages, like paid listings and paid inclusions.

You can think of SEM as more expensive and quite possibly more targeted, while SEO is free (not counting your time of course) and its purpose is to obtain better free search listings.

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the visibility of a website or a web page in search engines' "natural," or un-paid, search results whereas Search engine marketing (SEM) is a form of Internet marketing that involves the promotion of websites by increasing their visibility in search engine results pages through optimization as well as through advertising (paid placements, contextual advertising, and paid inclusions).

Perhaps it´s not clear:
1. Your support people DID not answer to my e-mails in proper time; they took more than 6 hours to start answering, and after I called and sent a lot fo follow-ups.
2. Thru Chat was not possbile reach Admin people: that is up to you and there is nothing I can do.
3. It took me 10 minutes overseas awaiting on the phone line, to know that there was not un available agent; you may not know, but there are problems with your phone system, because in the past you´re not able to call to Brazil. The phone has rang, I answered, and nobody was at the other side.

SEM is a broader term than SEO. Where SEO aims to provide better organic search results, SEM uses the search engines to advertise your website or business to Internet customers and send a more targeted traffic to your Web site. SEO and SEM are not competing services. SEO is considered a subset of SEM services. If you want to conduct business on the Internet you need to be visible in both organic and advertised links, which means you need both SEO and SEM.
