What strategies should be followed so as not to get hit by recent updates from google?

After Penguin Update:
1. Check the website onsite errors through Google Webmaster and Google Developers
2. Work on website content
3. Don't do keyword stuffing
4. Avoid linking Keywords into blog or articles its better to link key phrases
5. Avoid Directory Posting
6. Post quality of content
7. Do Guest blog posting

It is very hard to recover from  recently  Google penguin update. Lots of websites is badly affected by these effects. You have only two option:
1 Make changes in site including change in content, anchor linking, keywords stuffing, quality links etc to decrease the effect of Google Penguin Update.
2. Turn to new site and are optimizing site according google guidelines and rules.

Some reasons why sites are affected by the latest Google penguin update :

- Link relevance and link pyramid
- Poor quality content
- Give importance to quality over quantity
- Keyword or phrase density that is too large
- A bad design or bad links structure
