I don't know the first, and really, this will probably be a matter of discussion since search engines have improved gradually. I mean, lots of software from like 70s and 80s have supported searching through records, text, documents etc.

But some of the first popular internet search engines were Altavista (was really good and dominant for many years) and HotBot
