URL - Uniform Resource Locator. The most common place you see these is in a browser. When you enter something like
"http://whatever" in the address bar you are using a URL. Its made of three parts - first the protocol, i.e. HTTP, second a divider such as//, and the item name which can also have multiple parts, The first part must be the domain name, including the relevant subdomain. Then another / (slash) to separate each of the search elements sent to the domain.

A Uniform Resource Locator, colloquially termed a web address, is a reference to a web resource that specifies its location on a computer network and a mechanism for retrieving it. A URL is a specific type of Uniform Resource Identifier, although many people use the two terms interchangeably.

Just as buildings and houses have a street address, webpages also have unique addresses to help people locate them. On the Internet, these addresses are called URLs (Uniform Resource Locators).

A URL is a "Uniform Resource Locator." And that...doesn't really clear things up, to be honest. What does that mean? Well, essentially, the website is the "resource," and the URL, the "locator," is what identifies it and allows you to find it.
