What is an "Umbrella Keyword" in SEO?

An umbrella keyword is a keyword that fits many other different long tail keywords under its "umbrella".
For instance: search engine traffic is an umbrella keyword in relation to:
- Best search engine traffic
Search engine traffic for my business
Business leads and search engine traffic
While ranking for long tail keywords might be easier, umbrella keywords often have a great deal more search engine volume.
An umbrella keyword would be a keyword for which many long-tail variation keywords exist. In that sense it is a 'broad' term, the very opposite of a specific term.
