The formula is straightforward: Divide the number of times a keyword is used on your page by the total number of words on the page. Here's an easy example: Your page has 1,000 words and your keyword is used 10 times. This gives: 10 / 1000 = .001

The formula is straightforward: Divide the number of times a keyword is used on your page by the total number of words on the page. Multiply this by 100 to get a percentage, which in this case is 1%.

Keyword density is one of the ways Google calculates the relevancy of a web page for any specific topic. Apart from the obvious Google search results, you can also find keyword density in an HTML report of a website. Keyword density is roughly defined as the ratio between number of occurrences of a keyword on a web page and the total number of words on that page. If a particular keyword occurs one hundred times on a page of 500 words, then the keyword's density would be equal to 2%.

Keyword density tells you how often a search term appears in a text in relation to the total number of words it contains. For example: if a keyword appears three times in a 100 word text the keyword density would be 3%.

It's usually expressed as a percentage. To compute keyword density, you divide the count of keywords by the total word count on the page and then multiply the result by 100.
Like this, Keyword Density (%) = (Number of Keyword Occurrences / Total Number of Words) * 100.
