Hi all,

I am a complete noob to A1, but have thus far been impressed.

One thing I am not able to figure out is how, when you have multiple Sitemap files and a Sitemap index, do you define which urls go into which files.

My goal is to establish a logical structure that would enable easy identification of indexation issues for a e-commerce client's site that probably has way more unique pages than it should, as discussed at distilled.net/blog/seo/indexation-problems-diagnosis-using-google-webmaster-tools/

Assuming the client's URLs look like this: example.com/category/product/SKU
The structure might look be something like this:
file 1: all category pages
file 2: categoryA, all product pages
file 3: categoryA, all SKU pages
file 4: categoryB, all product pages
file 5: categoryb, all SKU pages
and so forth.

I did not see any help-files on how to define which urls go to which Sitemap files.

Could one of you kind folks point me in the right direction?

Thank you very much.

Normally when you scan a website (or parts of a website) and there are too many URLs to fint into a single XML sitemap file, A1 Sittemap Generator will automatically split URLs across multiple XML sitemap files:

In your situation, I think you will want to create separate projects, e.g. one for each category. Then configure "output filters", "analysis filters" and possibly "start search from paths list" in each project, so you only crawl and include the URLs you want. (And hence control which URLs go into generated sitemap files in each project.)

If you don't see above mentioned options, switch off "easy mode":
