If website does not have XML sitemap it matter for SEO point of view for google and other search engine. With use of XML site map, it becomes easier for search engine to index all your pages quickly. For the website where pages got updated on daily base, it is good to have XML site map.

Google sitemap is a way to tell Google which pages of your site you want to index. You just write the url in a text document (you can do a much sophisticated by using a xml document), name it "site-map.txt" and upload it to your root directory. That way you can maintain your list of url, and if you have to submit them again, it will be easier instead of going to the Google "submit-a-link" page and do it for every url.

If you don't have XML sitemap for your website then you will miss out some of the benefits like:

- can't get a better crawl from Google, since you have not told it which pages to crawl
- can miss reports on how you get traffic from Google
- will miss report on how your page is viewed by the Googlebot

Yes, an Xml site-map normally helps to make sure that bots discover all the links which may not be discovered in their general crawling process!

you've built your website and put it up online for the world to see. You have put your sales information, made an exciting offer, you have nice graphics and are just waiting now for people to find your site and buy your products. part of the puzzle is a small file you put on your website called a "sitemap". There is also another form of this sitemap that you need to have on your page. Simply put it serves the same function as the html sitemap but is directed specifically to the search engines.

Then search engine will not be able to crawl the website pages if you don't have xml sitemap. XML sitemap is necessary very necessary.

Google (search engines) uses SITEMAP.XML to know when your site is updated and what links and structure it has , so it is important for you to have SITEMAP.XML for proper website indexing.
