Canonical link : Duplicate content creates a problem for the search engine and therefore for your rankings. When your site has copies of the same content, the search engine has a hard time determining which page to rank for which search query.

Robots.txt : The robots exclusion standard, also known as the robots exclusion protocol or simply robots.txt, is a standard used by websites to communicate with web crawlers and other web robots. The standard specifies how to inform the web robot about which areas of the website should not be processed or scanned.

A canonical link element is an HTML element that helps webmasters prevent duplicate content issues by specifying the "canonical" or "preferred" version of a web page as part of search engine optimization.

Robots.txt is a text file that lists webpages which contain instructions for search engines robots. The file lists webpages that are allowed and disallowed from search engine crawling.

Canonical links actually help you control your duplicate content while robots.txt is part of the robots exclusion protocol (REP), a group of web standards that regulate how robots crawl the web, access and index content, and serve that content up to users.

A canonical link tells the search engines that this particular site page is the preferred version of the site and will be represented in the search results.

Canonical links or canonical tags are a HTML element that helps website owners eliminate the issue of duplicate content.

Robots.txt helps you to tell search engines which pages of your website needs to be crawled or indexed
