Schema markup is code, or microdata, that are placed on a website to help search engines provide more relevant & useful results to users. Microdata includes hints that help search engines categories & interpret information that you want to highlight & then present it in rich snippet form. Content on the website gets indexed & returns back to search engines. Websites with markup rank in an average of four positions higher in the SERP's than those without schema markup.
