Obviously there may be specific niche/branding/advertising/gaming websites that can deviate from the above suggestions outlined by Sarah. But as general rules, yes!

Web desiging tips are as bellow :

1. Select a colour scheme and stick to it.
2. Use templates.
3. Provide an easy to use navigation system.
4. Don't go overboard on special effects
5. Backgrounds

7. Site Map & Search Feature
8. Content is King

The site should have more of text and clear space. It should not be crowded with images and graphics.
It should have meta keywords and contact form so that the user can contact u anytime. If not contact form then atleast contact details.

I have few ideas of Web Design are as below :
-Use Proper Sized Graphics
-Create Alternate Domains
-Use Meaningful File Names
-Create Simple and attractive.

Main thing is navigation very important.

In my opinion, when designing a website, you should keep in mind that the templates, fonts, colors, images that you use is linked to your website.

Make use of menus on the right and the left. Try to link to as many pages of your site. Your navigational structure should be neat, consistent and easily accessible for an optimal undistracted user experience.

Try to use some good pictures, colors, fonts and check that the pages get easily navigated and ofcourse try to write some unique content...

The tips which you have given above is very nice but some other tips for the design are given bellow :

1. Do not use heavy Graphics in the Design.
2. Set the size of the CSS.
3. Do not use the Flash banner or Flash Videos in the web design because it takes more time to load.
4. Check your design in the different browsers.
5. Give some effective services and schemes to the visitors.
