Hi,

I need to do link building using .gov, and .edu website, how would I find them?

M. Rebecca

If you think backlinking to .gov websites will give you good backlink credit, them I am afraid you have to look for another alternate. Most of the .gov/ .edu/ .org websites (if these websites are authority websites) have nofollow links.

Second thing, every backlink carries equal weightage (I mean extensions don't affect backlinking credit) whether they are .gov backlink or twitter backlink.

But if you are really intent on it, you can use a tool called 'Keyword Country' for finding .edu and .gov backlinks. I use it to find quality sources for link-building and that too in a completely natural and legitimate way...

I think that getting links from high PR sites is the same thing with edu and gov links...focus on the other sites instead of edu and gov, because are very hard to get links form them...and if get they are from spammy sites, not very good quality.

yes, .edu and .gov sites with high pr is very beneficial for us. they are helpful to improve the pr rank. you can find it by google or any other tools which provide the .edu or .gov links like dropmylink.com.
you can try it, it gives better results.

With the help of Google 'site:' search operator your can find .gov and .edu sites.

site:.edu inurl:blog "post a comment" -"comments closed" -"you must be logged in" "Keyword"
site:.gov inurl:blog "post a comment" -"comments closed" -"you must be logged in" "Keyword"

Thanks all of you for giving information on getting backlinks from these type of sites. It's really not easy to get backlinks from these sites.

The high authority edu and gov websites won,t link just like that. Other with lower PR are full of spam which is no good. All link from high Pr site are equal, the go on.

Let me save you some time. Just skip this idea.

Contradictory to most IM'ers belief, .edu and .gov links carry no special ranking power. It is a big myth.

The TLD of a page linking to you makes no difference. Years ago it was really hard to get a .edu or .gov backlink. Some sites that had them were ranking really well. As usual in the IM world, people drew the wrong conclusion. They felt that Google gave some special waiting to these links just because of the .edu or .gov. In reality, it was just because the pages the links were on had a lot of authority, no different than a link from a really good .com or .net page.

Today, it is easy to get these links. I can pay some college kid $20 to set me up a blog on his university website. Hell, they would probably do it for $5. I can build all the .edu links I want off of there.

Now if a university wants to give me a link off of their homepage, I'm listening. Any .edu or .gov links you see that are being sold on a large scale should be avoided. They are junk.
