Bad date in Sitemaps

Sitemap generator is putting the date of my homepage at Dec 30 1969. Which gives errors to the search engines. Does anybody know why you would program it to give a date one day before unix time? Can I get a rep to answer why I have to change this every time I run a sitemap with you product???

Maybe you post an example URL? My guess is it is your webserver that returns that value since A1SG would not place that value in generated XML sitemaps if no last-modified header was returned. Anyhow, much easier to diagnose if you provide your websiet URL here (or over email if you do not want it to be public)

Thanks for responding. The site is http://www.aztecwindpower.com it also randomly generates the same date on other pages.

When loading your domain front page into Firefox (using plugin Live HTTP Headers) I get this:

HTTP/1.1 200 OK
Date: Thu, 19 Dec 2013 00:57:49 GMT
Server: Apache
X-Powered-By: W3 Total Cache/0.9.3
Content-Encoding: gzip
Vary: Accept-Encoding,User-Agent,Host
Last-Modified: Thu, 01 Jan 1970 00:00:00 GMT
Keep-Alive: timeout=5, max=100
Connection: Keep-Alive
Transfer-Encoding: chunked
Content-Type: text/html

Specificly see:

Last-Modified: Thu, 01 Jan 1970 00:00:00 GMT

So you webserver is returning the date 1970 as last modified.

If you want to have A1 Sitemap Generator ignore the last modified returned by your website/website, you can do so. Check this help page: http://www.microsystools.com/products/sitemap-generator/help/http-last-modified-meta/ (shows both how to mass edit them in A1SG, but also how to leave the data out of XML siemaps generated)

So I suppose, that in my case - when A1 finds a last modified date of 30.12.1899 on
http://4you-solutions.de/onlinemarketing-blog/allgemein/2012
I have to contact my provider to ask what's this nonsense for?

But on top of that, A1SG is of the opinion that the parent directory
http://4you-solutions.de/onlinemarketing-blog/allgemein/
is 301 moved permanently.

I wonder why A1SG finds the file, when the parent directory is moved.
But most of all I wonder, how to correct this.

I gave up after the response I got from A1SG, I'll manually change the date. My provider will have no clue what I'm talking about.

Makes no sense.

Thanks for the reply...

I know what you mean - the support desk of some providers is "optimizable" ;)
But they should know at least, what "last modified date" means.
Which provider is this? <- For avoiding in future :-)

If you can change the source code of your files you could apply this php-code snippet
header("Expires: " . $lastmod_gm); // sende echtes Datum
header("Last-Modified: " . $lastmod_gm);
$moddate = gmdate("d.m.Y", $lastmod_mk);  /* f. copyright im Seiten-Footer */

I use it dynamically (supplemented by additional functions) to tell Google newer dates then the saving dates of the files probably do  ;)

But I didn't implement some code for the directories so far.

It's GoDaddy, I could call a few times to run into the right person to talk to. They are really great, but I feel this is a bit out of their realm. They are not SEO People. Again, GoDaddy has never let me down and has a really good product.

That *exact* value was used as "dummy" text shown when no date info was found. I believe I later changed this to show as empty instead. What version are you using? I just tested on latest version where nothing is shown when an URL/page contains no last-modified data.

If you still experience this with A1SG 5.x feel free to create a new thread and/or email :)

My guess is you are not using default settings and have configured A1SG to check directories even if there are no links to it. Check this help page:

Having pages return proper last-modified values is not really SEO specific. It is one of the core things. I am almost positive you will get a good response if you post a ticket asking why your page returns a wrong last-modified value - especially since you can point to a product like FireFox that proves it.

I apologize if it sounds that I am unappreciative, I have so many things I deal with as a new business. I extend my apologies for making it sound worse than it really is. I am getting ahold of them this day to ask. I'll let you know how it goes.
