According to me Link baiting is any agreeable or topic, placed in a website, advised purposely to increase the gathering of other links from various sources to the website. Link bait is an extremely effective form of marketing strategy. link farming is to increase the number of sites that link or point to specific site. When search engines ranking web sites or web pages they were consider so many signals.

Link bait, simply put, is content that is so funny, so interesting, so useful, or otherwise remarkable that it becomes irresistible to bloggers and website owners, who set up links from their pages to the original material. I've seen link bait take the form of Top 10 lists, humorous videos uploaded to YouTube, checklists, cartoons, tools, widgets and blog plugins — to name just a few.

link farm is several collection of web sites that all hyperlink to every other site in the group. even though some link farms can be created by hand, most are created through automatic programs and services.

I have read this in a article-

Since the end of March, I had problems with the ranking of my website. I have a lot of links to my clients. Panda could interpret these links to link agriculture and penalized me?

So both of this will reduce our google rank?

Link baiting means create more and more back link for website which helps to drive website ranking and visitor to the site. Link baiting effective for keyword ranking to more relevant search query.
Link farm is way to internally change link with group of site to fast way means unethical way promote website. Link farm make negative effective for keyword ranking.

Link farming is the practice to link a group of websites hyperlink to each other of that group. It is not recommended by search engine.
Because it may result that site will NOT be indexed in search engine and had a bad impact on SEO.
Linkbaiting is the process of creating an interesting newsworthy topic keeping SEO techniques in mind and post it on popular social media channels. This content/ feature acts as a bait and encourages others to link to it. There is nothing unethical in it and hence Google won't penalize you for it.
