Sitemap tells the search engines that your site pages exist within your website while providing great user experience for the visitors for better navigation.

A site map (or sitemap) is a list of pages of a web site accessible to crawlers or users. It can be either a document in any form used as a planning tool for Web design, or a Web page that lists the pages on a website, typically organized in hierarchical fashion.

HTML sitemap is a plain text sitemap used by browsers to know and surf through your website pages. XML sitemap is a coded sitemap used to submit in webmaster tool to help spiders crawl them and index the webpages in search engines.

Sitemap is a collection of webpages of a website which tells the search engine and user's for their pages.
There are two types of sitemap
1. sitemap.xml
2. sitemap.html

Sitemap is a nice way to tell search engines that a website is available and that it can be crawled by them.
