Nofollow links are important whether it doesn't pass the link juice but yes, it directs the traffic towards your website and Google always prefers the ratio of dofollow or nofollow links.

In SEO, no follow links are used for don't pass the link juice.

No follow links are never crawled and indexed by Google. These links are only helpful to redirect traffic to your website from various external webpages.

We can't say nofollow link are not impotant for backlinks but the main advantage of nofollow is increase the traffic towords your site..
