Google wont index image sitemap

I had this problem once before, and thought I had it solved, but now I can't get Google to index the urls:
GOOGLE SAYS: Sitemap: http://www.cirrusimage.com/sitemap-image.xml
Format   Submitted URLs   Submitted   Downloaded
Sitemap
970
0 URLs in web index
Nov 15, 2010
Resubmit
Nov 15, 2010
Type   URLs submitted
Images   970
Sitemap errors and warnings
Line   Status   Details  No errors or warnings found.

I used to be able to get a good sitemap and all the urls were indexed immediately upon resubmitting the new sitemap. My regular xml sitemap is accepted w/o problems and all urls are indexed almost immediately upon resumitting to Google.
Can you please look at my sitemap and tell me what the problem might be? Thanx!

(I lost my old hard drive and had to do a restore from my MOZY account, but lost my old A1 installation.)

Offhand:
* The image sitemap looks good
* You have no errors in Google webmaster tools
* Image sitemap is recognized as "images" type

Hmm... Which leaves no known problems left. I will give it some thought!

The last time I had this problem, it was a matter of "preferred domain" Google requires:
https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/settings?hl=en&siteUrl=http://www.cirrusimage.com/

I think it has something to do with the directory path and the difference between "www.cirrusimage.com" and "cirrusimage.com"

The crazy thing is, I can submit the old sitemap and Google will almost instantly show over 900 urls indexed!

Webhelpforums

If you have set preferred domain to
http://cirrusimage.com/
then it's a bad idea to scan your website as
http://www.cirrusimage.com/

Since your website does not redirect one to the other (you really should do this!)
A1 Sitemap Generator will use what you enter into it and alias other URL versions (e.g. with-www or non-www) to what you select. Maybe that is the reason? For immediate solution make sure scan path is http://cirrusimage.com/ or just use text replace in your image sitemap

I have my preferred domain set as www.cirrusimage.com, and that is what I use to scan my website; why does it work for regular xml sitemap but not for the image sitemap?

You say to "redirect one to the other" - how does that work?

Webhelpforums

Hmm.... Then I don't know :( Back to square one :)

Here's Google's help on 301 permanent redirects

Ok, I pulled a fresh sitemap and it got indexed - although with about 30 fewer urls than my xml sitemap. I'm not sweating that.

Should I have 301 redirects for every one of my urls, or just the index.htm?

Quite often image xml sitemaps will have fewer page URLs than xml sitemaps
e.g. pages that only contains images shared across all pages (logo etc.)

In your case you simply want to redirect all non-www to www version. when you redirect at that "root" level it will affect all your website pages.

But be sure to read up on on it and test that it works! You might also want to read this about duplicate URLs in general.

I have the same problem, where Google won't accept the sitemap generated by A1. I have over 20,000 images that I need on the sitemap and just cannot get Google to register it.
I do have my domain set up with the "www" and also use this for the crawler, so it should work, but all I get after a few days is a big red "X" next to the sitemap I added.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

What error are you getting more precisely in Google Webmaster Tools?

What's your website address + image sitemap address?

Thanks, but there is no real error reported, just a red "X" under the "Status".
The location is at www.hairtransplantnetwork.com/sitemap-image.xml.gz and I have re-crawled it a number of times and re-submitted it to try and get the images indexed.

Any help with this will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Hans

Hi there,
OK, I found out why!! The file was too big, so I changed the number of URL's to list per page and now it's all working fine.
Thanks
Hans

I guess you found it now :) But otherwise, clicking the sitemap next to the red cross gives the error message.

Great to hear you found a solution. I will look into making that solution automatic, so it does not require configuring options! :)
